The path
from a simple farm to one of the
most successful family
businesses in the
SalzburgerLand:
Our grandfather, Sebastian Mayrhofer,
was one of the pioneers of
Zauchensee as a ski resort.
As one of 6 land owners in
Zauchensee, Sebastian, who
farmed the Gross-Taxer-Gut in
Radstadt - known by the locals
as the "Taxer
Wastl", recognized the
increasing interest in winter
tourism and, as much as anything
else, saw the optimal natural
features for a ski area on the Zauchensee
Alm. Sebastian was one of few
farmers to take a broader world
view of things, joining 6 other
investors in founding the
Zauchensee Lift Company.
Back at that time, he did
everything in his power to
convince his 5 alpine neighbors
of the idea of constructing
several lifts in the Zauchensee
hill country. In this
regard, we should also mention
Benedikt Scheffer, known by his
friends as "Scheffer Dik", was a
driving force and major
investor in the Zauchensee Lift
Co.

The reason that
creation of the lift company was
so important for our family
business is clear: only through
the construction of the lifts
and development of the ski area
would our success become
possible. The ski area,
after all, is the key element of
our infrastructure!
In 1962 and together with
grandmother, Elisabeth Mayrhofer,
the tenants of the "Lift Inn"
laid the foundation for the very
successful family business we
know today. With the
participation of parents Anita
and
Sebastian Mayrhofer, as well as
aunt Marlies Mayrhofer, the last
35 years have seen a simple farm
transformed into 3 hospitality
establishments, one of which is
the Salzburger Hof.
