Salzburg harvest festival
The diverse, colorful cultural landscape and the lively, authentic traditions of the Salzburg farmers are the foundation for the wide range of opportunities during harvest festival. Here you can learn about tradition and rural life at farmer's markets as well as at our harvest and farmhouse festivals.
Every week, mostly on the weekends, another town celebrates its own festival with a farmer's market, country handcrafts, typical folk music and, of course, with farmhouse delicacies, which are mostly made by your hosts themselves. Enjoy typical Salzburg treats from the farm: cheese dumpling soup, pasties with sauerkraut, alpine-style hamburgers, and much more.
A special tip is the world's largest hay figure parade each year, a highlight which thousands of visitors don't miss out on. During weeks of preparation, individual people, associations, and locals construct the huge, life-size hay figures. On elaborately decorated wagons pulled by Noriker and Haflinger horses and vintage tractors, these works of art made of hay parade through town accompanied by whip crackers and people in traditional costumes.
